Infosys CEO Salil Parekh recently addressed concerns over low salary hikes and toxic work culture claims during the company’s Q3 earnings call on January 16, 2025.

This comes amid a raging debate over the industry-wide 90-hour workweek, sparked by remarks from Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy and L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan.

Infosys Low Salary Hike and Toxic Work Culture Concerns

Infosys has faced criticism for stagnant fresher salaries, which have reportedly remained unchanged for over a decade.

Employees and former staff have raised concerns about the lack of financial growth despite promotions and the excessive workload.

A Pune-based former employee, Bhupendra Vishwakarma, recently went viral on LinkedIn, revealing that he quit Infosys without another job offer due to these issues.

The company’s work culture has also come under scrutiny.

Bhupendra cited several reasons for his departure, including a toxic client environment.

He also mentioned limited recognition and onsite opportunities, as well as perceived regional bias.

“Infosys CEO Salil Parekh responded to these claims during the earnings call.

He emphasized that the company has a well-defined process for evaluating performance and ensuring fair treatment for all employees.

CEO’s Response: Industry-Wide 90-Hour Workweek Debate

The debate over long work hours began with Narayana Murthy’s remarks in 2023. He advocated for a 70-hour workweek for young professionals.

This was met with backlash, and the discussion has since escalated, with L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan suggesting a 90-hour workweek and working on Sundays.

These comments have sparked a broader conversation about work-life balance and employee well-being in the IT industry.

During the earnings call, Salil addressed the concerns raised by Bhupendra and others, stating, “In terms of the employee question, within Infosys, we have a very clear approach to make sure that everyone is treated fairly.”

He aaded, “We have a well-defined process of looking at how the performance is driven.”

He reiterated the company’s commitment to equal opportunity and high standards of fairness.
