Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk are against work-life balance, Why?

However, there have been various statements from the top executives of the companies regarding the work-life balance. In 2018, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos was against the concept of work-life balance.’ 

“The reality is, if I am happy at home, I come into the office with tremendous energy. And if I am happy at work, I come home with tremendous energy. It actually is a circle; it’s not a balance. And I think that is worth everybody paying attention to it,” he said at the event in 2018.

In 2019, Apart from Jeff Bezos Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella shared his thoughts with the Australian Financial Review. He said you need to find a balance between what is considered as working and reflexing. He focused on work-life harmony.

In November 2022, Elon Musk said remote work will no longer be allowed and employees will be expected to be in the office for at least 40 hours per week, subject to exceptions by his approval.

According to CNBC, Musk also said that he works 120 hours a week, amounting to 17 hours a day. Musk would also sleep on the factory floor at Tesla due to his nonstop work schedule.

Recent Development of Companies in 2023

The employees want companies to support work-life balance. However, many aspects of one’s personal life can intersect with work, including family, leisure, and health.

Moreover, during the Covid times, the companies were committed to maintaining flexibility for their workforce.

Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy has suggested that Indian youngsters should work 70 hours a week in order to boost their work productivity.

Now, even ending to the work flexibility for its workforce the Tech companies have ended Work From Home and started calling their employees to Work From Office. TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and HCLTech have asked their employees to come to the office.
