McDonald’s, the global fast-food giant, has announced its decision to set up its India office and a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad.

This initiative is expected to create an initial headcount of 2,000 employees, marking a significant investment in the region.

The announcement was made following a meeting between McDonald’s Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on March 19, 2025.

Why McDonald’s Chose Hyderabad: Role of Telangana Government

McDonald’s chose Hyderabad over other competing cities like Bengaluru because it offers a high-quality talent pool, superior infrastructure, and excellent quality of living.

Chris Kempczinski emphasized that these factors played a pivotal role in the decision-making process.

The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, played a crucial role in securing this investment by offering competitive incentives and showcasing the state’s robust skilling initiatives.

The Telangana government has been proactive in attracting global investments.

Over the past 15 months, the state has launched several skilling initiatives aimed at enhancing the employability of its youth.

The Chief Minister encouraged McDonald’s to leverage the resources of the Young India Skills University to train employees not only for its GCC but also for its restaurant operations across the country.

Additionally, the state government has offered to source agricultural produce required by McDonald’s from local farmers, thereby boosting the agricultural economy and supporting rural livelihoods.

Community Development and Expansion Plans

McDonald’s has assured the Telangana government of its commitment to community development.

The company plans to deepen its global community programs in the state, aligning with its corporate social responsibility goals.

Currently, McDonald’s operates 38 outlets in Telangana and plans to add three to four new outlets annually, including in tier II and III cities.

The establishment of the GCC in Hyderabad is a strategic move for McDonald’s as it aims to streamline its operations and enhance its capabilities in India and beyond.

The GCC will serve as a hub for various functions, including business services, technology, and innovation.

This initiative aligns with McDonald’s broader strategy to strengthen its global footprint and adapt to the evolving market dynamics.
