Global commercial real estate services firm CBRE has announced ambitious plans to significantly expand its digital and technology (D&T) workforce in India over the next two to three years.

This move underscores CBRE’s commitment to leveraging India’s tech talent and reinforcing its position as a key player in the real estate industry.

CBRE Vision and India’s Tech Talent

Sandeep Dave, CBRE’s Chief Digital and Technology Officer, revealed that the company aims to increase its D&T employee count in India by nearly 30% from the current 1,500.

This strategic decision reflects CBRE’s recognition of India’s pivotal role in its global technology strategy.

The Hyderabad center, CBRE’s second-largest outside the United States, serves as the primary software development hub for the Asia Pacific region.

Sandeep expressed his confidence in Indian tech talent, emphasizing that CBRE’s India presence has grown exponentially over the past few years.

“We did not have a meaningful India presence four or five years ago,” he stated. “We are now 5x in size as far as the India presence is concerned.”

CBRE’s hiring strategy is inclusive, drawing talent from tier two and tier three universities as well as prestigious institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Moreover, Indian teams have seamlessly integrated with CBRE’s global teams, contributing to the firm’s success.

Innovation from India

CBRE’s India team has been at the forefront of developing innovative solutions. Notably, they created an AI-powered tool capable of scanning and analyzing market news to generate leads.

Over time, this tool has evolved into a comprehensive workflow that ingests data from various sources, providing valuable insights. Sandeep emphasized that the innovation landscape in India differs from that of Western markets.

While Western markets focus on cutting-edge technologies, India’s strength lies in scalability and cost-effectiveness.

CBRE recognizes the potential of AI and data science to drive meaningful insights in the real estate sector. Especially given the vast amounts of data the company manages across more than 100 countries.

Cost Advantage and Global Impact

Sandeep highlighted India’s cost advantage, particularly in AI and data engineering. The ability to achieve more at a lower cost has positioned India as a massive talent hub.

CBRE’s India-based team constitutes over 25% of Sandeep’s global team, demonstrating the country’s significance in serving the firm’s global demand.

As CBRE continues to grow, its employee count in India will evolve to meet business needs. The company’s commitment to scaling up its D&T workforce aligns with its vision for continued innovation and excellence.
