Luminar to cut nearly 20% jobs in the current year

Luminar Technologies, known for its lidar sensors crucial for autonomous vehicles, has announced a significant workforce reduction of approximately 20%.

Luminar Technologies is marking a pivotal aspect of its restructuring strategy for the current year. The company is undergoing a comprehensive reorganization effort.

In addition to the workforce reduction, Luminar is actively exploring the option to sub-lease portions or entire facilities, aimed at trimming its global footprint.

With nearly 800 full-time employees spread across key locations in the US, Germany, Sweden, India, and China as of December last year.

This strategic move indicates the company’s commitment to adapting to market conditions and optimizing its operational efficiency.

While undoubtedly challenging, these measures are essential for Luminar to realign its resources and maintain its position as a leading player in the rapidly evolving automotive technology landscape.

As per the media reports, an American multinational corporation and technology company, Google has terminated its entire Python team as part of a cost-cutting strategy, intending to hire more affordable talent abroad.

Previously, the Python team in the US, comprising fewer than 10 members, oversaw majority of Google’s Python ecosystem.

In a bid to reduce expenses, the company plans to establish a new team in Munich, Germany, known for its lower labor costs. This shift signifies a move towards leveraging cheaper labor resources.

In 2024, the companies may resort to layoffs for various reasons including Financial Challenges, Restructuring, Technological Changes, Technological Changes, and Performance Issues.

Additionally, So far in 2024, there have been 516 layoffs at tech companies with 114,231 people impacted (914 people per day).
