E-Shram Portal, launched by the Government of India on August 26, 2021, is a flagship initiative aimed at supporting and empowering the unorganized workforce, which forms the backbone of the nation’s economy.

This portal is designed to create a comprehensive National Database of Unorganized Workers (NDUW), verified and seeded with Aadhaar, enabling the delivery of targeted welfare schemes and benefits.

E-Shram Portal: Objectives and Impact

The primary objective of the E-Shram Portal is to establish a centralized database of unorganized workers to facilitate effective policy implementation.

By leveraging technology, the portal ensures that workers gain access to social security, job opportunities, and financial inclusion.

This fosters a more equitable and resilient labor ecosystem.

As of December 19, 2024, the portal has registered 30,48,02,313 workers, making it the world’s largest database of unorganized workers.

Registration on the E-Shram Portal is free of cost and can be done online through the portal or at Common Services Centres (CSCs) and State Seva Kendras (SSKs).

The portal offers a single registration process, requiring minimal documentation such as Aadhaar and bank account details.

It also provides multilingual support, allowing workers from diverse regions to access the portal in multiple Indian languages.

Key Features and Recognition

E-Shram Portal offers several user-centric features, including a UAN linked to Aadhaar, which enables seamless access to benefits.

It also has a grievance redressal mechanism, a dedicated helpline, and support system to address workers’ queries and grievances promptly.

Additionally, the portal integrates with employment and skill opportunities.

This allows registered workers to connect with job matching, skilling, apprenticeship, pension schemes, and state-specific schemes.

The portal promotes financial inclusion through direct benefit transfers and digital payments, ensuring that unorganized workers receive their entitled benefits efficiently.

It also captures family details for migrant workers, aiding in the provision of child education and women-centric schemes for those who have migrated with their families.

The Ministry of L&E efforts in developing E-Shram Portal have been well appreciated by delegates of different member states.

The portal has received recognition at various international forums.

The portal has been recognized as a revolutionary step towards recognizing and supporting unorganized workers.

It significantly contributes to the resilience of the labor market.
