According to various reports, Elon Musk and nearly 1000 experts have signed an open letter urging a pause on AI systems. Apart from Musk even Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has also signed the open letter.

“Advanced AI could represent a profound change in the history of life on Earth, and should be planned for and managed with commensurate care and resources,” the letter says.

“Unfortunately, this level of planning and management is not happening, even though recent months have seen AI labs locked in an out-of-control race to develop and deploy ever more powerful digital minds that no one – not even their creators – can understand, predict, or reliably control”, the letter added.

The purpose to sign the letter from the top expert is that they want AI labs to immediately stop working on powerful AI systems.

The experts are urging the developers to step back from the “out-of-control race” to deploy ever more advanced technology that will work on humanity’s development.

The CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman said AI has the potential to drastically change society but also has real dangers.

Sam Altman also believes that AI chatbots could “eliminate a lot of current jobs” but also has the potential to be “the greatest technology humanity has yet developed” to improve our lives

He has also suggested that one should be cautious but also open-minded about the potential benefits of AI. By doing so, everyone can ensure that AI is developed in a way that benefits society as a whole.

“We’ve got to be careful here. I think people should be delighted that we are a little bit terrified of this,” he said. “I’m particularly worried that these models could be used for large-scale disinformation. Now that they’re getting better at writing computer code, [they] could be used for offensive cyberattacks,” he said.

The OpenAI CEO said, “The AI tool is in human control, he can’t be sure of the humans who will be controlling it. There will be other people who don’t put some of the safety limits that we put on.”
